Prt. George "Crowie" Croal

Prt. George Croal, formerly of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, served with No.2 Troop of No.6 Commando from, at least, May 1944.

Prt. George Croal was Killed in Action (KIA) by machine gun fire whilst crossing a small bridge over a dried river bed near Ouistreham on 6th June 1944, aged 36 years.

He had survived his belated wife, Isabella Croal and they had, had a small daughter.

George was laid to rest in Ranville War Cemetry (France). Grave IIIA. O. 5.

The inscription on his headstone reads:

‘Always loving, always kind.  He died as he lived, everyone’s friend.’
